My Personal Philosophy
I am a results orientated specialist who helps people achieve the body they want inside and out - physically, mentally and health wise. I have decided to focus on the area of weight loss, achieving optimal health, and leaning and toning. One client has described me as a mini trainer, nutritionist, doctor, physical therapist and life coach all rolled into one. I prefer the natural approach – using no pills, drugs or surgeries – and I promote lifelong wellness changes. From an exercise stand point, I help the body move functionally and with intensity.
I help people who want to drop 10, 20, 50 lbs. or more and help tone their bodies and reduce fat. I help people who suffer from chronic diseases, on medications, have allergies, asthma, or other random ailments such as headaches, poor digestion, stress, sleep issues and more. I also assist people who want to prevent problems before they occur. My full time job is helping people change their lives.
I know I am at my best when I am focusing my attention on individuals who want to achieve their goals in a healthy manner and not just by finding “quick fixes.” There are no short cuts - just hard work, dedication, consistency and being educated. I am not looking for clients who are searching for the "lowest priced trainer.” If you work with a cheap trainer, you will get cheap results.
I am concentrating my efforts on people who have a strong goal and who are looking to invest in their health for the rest of their lives. I want to help people who are tired of living like they are, feeling how they feel, constantly in pain, tired of dieting, and working their butts off without dropping a pound. I help people who have a special event coming up in their life (wedding, class reunion, etc.) who want to look their best, or those who just want to be at their best for the rest of their lives.
If you are looking for a trainer who has experience in helping people achieve their goals with proven health and wellness principals in an educated manner, then I will be looking forward to working with you.
Real Talk by Me
Some clients have asked me why I didn’t choose to further my education with a medical degree (MD) or become a Dietician (RD). My answer is that I actually started my educational endeavors as pre-med at the University of California Davis. Through internships, working in hospitals and speaking with mentors and actual clients/patients, I realized many of the people who were seeking medical attention already had health issues, and the solution to these problems were mainly medications covering up the symptoms and not finding the root cause of the issues.
I understood quickly I didn't want to be someone who just prescribed pills to alleviate a person’s symptoms. Many times when one approaches a doctor with weight related health issues the solution is nearly always "diet and exercise", but it stops there. Some doctor’s don't tell you how to "diet and exercise.” I have many friends who are medical doctors and nurses and their lifestyle and nutrition education (they admit) is very limited. This is unfortunate.
I wanted to be able to help individuals before they needed to see a doctor or before being put on medications, in some instances, for the rest of their lives. I wanted to teach people how to prevent the disease state from happening or in most cases how to reverse it. I wanted to help the whole person and not just part of the person.
I decided to gear my education to become “all encompassing” and that is why I chose to have my education emphasize both Nutrition and Exercise. Since then I have added lifestyle coaching, physical therapy, and naturopath-type experience in both current and on-going education forums. I wanted to be that person you go see when the doctor tells you that you need to "diet and exercise" and "change your lifestyle habits.”
I have met many good trainers who are great with exercise but don't know much about nutrition. I have met many nutritionists who are great with nutrition but are limited with fitness experience. I have met some doctors who are limited in both. Don't get me wrong. I am not putting down all doctors and the medical community either. I feel that in cases of emergency situations, there is a time, place and need for certain medications, surgeries, etc. But we shouldn't be so quick to “pop a pill” every time our head hurts, we feel fatigued, or have a bout of stress. If you never learn what is causing your health issues in the first place, you will not be able to prevent them from reoccurring in the future.
"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will instruct his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease." - Thomas Edison 1903

"You....can do more outside the system than inside it."
